Welcome

Thank you for taking a moment to visit our website. We are a growing church located in the thriving area of Deering Center in Portland, Maine. We are a unique church; we are multi-cultural, multi-generational and multi-ethnic. Most importantly, we are a passionate church. We are passionate about the Good News of Jesus Christ. Consequently, our dreams and vision are simple: get the wonderfully Good News of Jesus to as many people possible in the Deering area, as well as to as many people possible in the Greater Portland area.

If you are passionate about Jesus and do not have a church home, we encourage you to check out our church family. If you are seeking and searching, we are especially interested in you.

We invite you to take a risk, and give us a try. You have questions, and so do we.

Join us on our journey as we follow the amazing man called "Jesus of Nazareth."

Grace: Transformed for Impact

Kingdom Grace

We are celebrating the Amazing Grace of God throughout 2019. Our first two talks are about God's grace not only saving us, but just as importantly, the Grace of God transforms us so that God can bear fruit through us.

We are immersing ourselves in "Kingdom Grace" by doing a study of the Gospel of Mark. Jesus is God's author of grace. Join us this Sunday morning as we learn the power of grace our ever deepening relationship with Jesus.

We want you to experience the extraordinary grace of God. Please click on the image and watch our video sermons. Then we invite you, to invite friends and family, and join us as we celebrate God's goodness.

We encourage you to join us this Sunday morning.

Sunday Morning Worship:

10:45 AM

4 Brentwood St., Portland, ME

207-773-2423

We look forward to meeting you soon!

Please take a look around and get a taste of what Deering Center Community Church is about. No matter who you are, or where you are - you are welcome here. If you have never been to church, or, if you have been away from your faith for a while and want to "reconnect," we are glad you have taken time to visit. Exploring the links above will introduce you to who we are, what we believe, and the ministries we pursue. It is our desire to serve you.

We are living in extraordinary, and some would say, rather challenging times. In the midst of turmoil, we all need a place to belong. Sort of like the old “Cheers” program; “a place where everybody knows your name.” For 2000 years God has offered his church as a place of refuge and solitude; particularly in times of distress.

Deering Center Community Church is a gathering of ordinary people who are discovering peace in tumultuous times. We are people with many different challenges. We consist of different nationalities, but have many similarities. One being, our desire to learn more about the Sovereign God of the universe. We are growing, and as we grow we are being knit together by God’s all encompassing love and peace. We invite you to join us this Sunday. You need a place to belong.

Join us this Sunday at Deering Center Community Church at 10:45 AM. For more information follow this link:

We are located in the middle of the Deering Center Community. We are across the street from the Quality Shop, and right beside Longfellow school.

We invite you to join us this Sunday morning.

When you arrive, here is what will happen:

  1. Welcome: you will be greeted by ushers, welcomed, and you will receive a bulletin. The bulletin will spell out the order of the service.
  2. Announcements: we begin with announcements.
  3. Meet and Greet: this is a time of friendly chaos. We take a moment to welcome each other.
  4. Reading: we share a reading together (from the Bible) out of the bulletin.
  5. Singing: we will sing several songs. The words to the songs are on a large overhead.
  6. Prayer: there is a brief prayer time; the Pastor will pray for the needs of the community as well as the needs of the congregation
  7. Song: we will sing a song to prepare us for the Message.
  8. Message: the Pastor will offer a Message out of the Bible. He will explain the meaning of the passage including helpful illustrations.
  9. Song: the Message will be followed with a closing song.
  10. Community Time: after the service we are invited into the Fireside room beside the sanctuary for coffee and a time see how everyone is doing.

Worship:

What to expect when you visit us:

Sometimes showing up to church is intimidating. Our church in particular is intimidating; It is large and built with stones!

It may seem cold on the outside but it is warm on the inside. We strive to make sure you feel at home while at

Deering Center. We hope the following information will help ease the tension and allow you to "take a peek"

into a normal Sunday.

Here are some "What to Expect"

"What to Expect"

(beginning with our primary purpose for which we exist).

Our first purpose as a church is to worship God. He designed us to experience his love by worshiping Him. The Psalmist said; "Declare His glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples." Psalm 96:3. Jesus said; "Love the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength" (Mark 12:30). God delights in communing with His people. Here are some answers to some of these helpful questions.

 What Should I Wear?

Our attire ranges from dungarees to dresses, suits and ties to shorts. We are much more concerned about what is going on in the inside of a person than the clothes they wear on the outside.

 What is the music like?

We do own a pipe organ and it is magnificent. However, we do not use it. Consequently, our music ranges from contemporary Christian music to traditional hymns. We are led by a worship band consisting of drums, guitars, keyboards, saxophone and singers.

 What Are the Messages Like?

Our pastor delivers 30-35 minute messages that teach sound Christian doctrines from the Bible. The messages have immediate and powerful impact on our daily lives. You can listen to his sermons by simply clicking here on "Messages." We use a "fill in the blank" outline that helps us put the message into practice.

Do My Kids Sit With Me?

We offer children services from birth to 5th grade during the Sunday morning gathering. The creative teachers will help your children learn about God in a relevant way, as well as offer fun experiences that will help the teaching come alive in their hearts. We provide "Junior Church Program" for children in kindergarten through 5th grade.

Will I Be Asked to Give Money?

The answer is "No." Giving in our church is for the members who have dedicated themselves to the Lord and His church. You are a guest and we ask that you keep your money and enjoy the worship.

Will I Be Bored?

We sure hope not. A life connected to Jesus should be fulfilling and rewarding. We strategically plan weekend gatherings to engage your heart, mind and soul. We use music, video, powerful teaching and other experiential elements to help you connect to God in a meaningful way.

What is the Overall Environment Like?

We want to make you feel welcome as you put yourself in a position to connect with God. We even provide fresh coffee, pretty comfortable seating, and casual environment that will set the tone for you to be more focused on God, and less concerned about the atmosphere around you.

Join us this Sunday morning (see schedule below). If you have questions please call 773-2423 or e-mail questions@deeringcenter.org
